Critical Safety Notice #1
Issued 12th of February
Run Warrandyte will not be held if the CFA posts Fire Danger Ratings that are either Extreme or Catastrophic for Central District.
The Vic Emergency site will also be consulted to ensure that there are no fires threatening our area.
If the FDR is Extreme or Catastrophic or there is a fire threatening the area, please do not come into Warrandyte from other areas or come to the sports facility.
Please make yourself familiar with the CFA 4 day forward forecast on their web site https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/fire-bans-ratings-and-restrictions/total-fire-bans-fire-danger-ratings
Note; the Fire Danger Rating is a safety management tool and should not be confused with a Total Fire Ban Rating which relates to the authority to use a naked flame. Run Warrandyte could still proceed on a High FDR with a Total Fire Ban as we will not be using flame other than our BBQ on the Netball Court which we have a TFB permit for.
The organisers of Run Warrandyte are confident that the event can be run safely on a High FDR as it is early in the morning making conditions more suitable. However, there are a number of important conditions which could see the event cancelled such as a fire outside our area that is not under control.
If a fire in a nearby area does occur during the event it will be identified by the RW dedicated Fire Marshall who will be monitoring Vic Emergency and Warrandyte CFA. The Fire Marshall will instruct the course marshals positioned in 6 key locations to sound the Air Horns provided to notify runners and marshals around the course. Upon hearing this alarm notification all runners are required to return to the finish line and to ensure their bib crosses the finish line counter to “mark them off the course”. Failure to do so will result in the RW marshals unnecessarily searching the course to find runners whose bibs have not been cancelled out.
RW will position four 4-wheel drive sedans in appropriate locations to assist slower runners to evacuate the course under the emergency condition. They will be fitted with Orange flashing roof lights so that runners will allow them passage.
If Run Warrandyte is cancelled by the organisers due to an Extreme or Catastrophic FDR or there are fires listed on the Vic Emergency app that have the potential to spread to Warrandyte a full refund will be made to each registration.
