5km Course Map – 8.00am START
You have until 10.30am to finish this course.
The 5k event is the perfect distance without too much stress. The 5km Event is for smart runners who understand their limitations but still want to blow away the cob webs.
The mixed road and trail course is scenic, taking in extended stretches of the Yarra River, Warrandyte State Park and beautiful sections of the bushy Warrandyte burbs.
As with all of our courses it begins at the Warrandyte Clubhouse on Taroona Avenue, with the starting line behind the Kindergarten and from there turns onto Taroona Ave. There are some minor hills, a short rough section, a beautiful riverside trail and a character filled rural suburban section to the course. You will complete one whole lap of this picturesque course before returning to the finish line.
Course description
At the start, once on the road you will head down the sealed Taroona Ave towards the river and turn left onto the sealed Everard Drive. The course continues all the way along Everard Drive to the Mid-way Drinks Station at Everard and Pound roads, then turning right onto the unsealed Tank Track. The Tank Track is a short but challenging climb and descent, slightly rough under foot (extra care is required on this section), at the end you will go left to cross Pound Bend Road, through private property (State Park drink station) then left again to join the State Park riverside walking track.
Take care along the riverside walking track. It is certainly a privilege for us to run this pathway so treat the bushland and native habitat with great respect. Single file running is requested to allow faster runners to pass. Please stay on the track at all times.
The track emerges at the Pound Bend Picnic Ground turning left to continue through the gravelly carpark (public toilet) and up to the sealed road which climbs out of the State Park back to the Mid-way drinks station at the corner of Pound and Everard Road. After a drink,,there is a short steep climb up Pound Bend Road to Third St. At the end of Third Street, a steep downhill left turn onto West End Road where you can make the most of the descent.
At the end of West End Road, turn left onto Taroona Avenue.
As you re-enter Taroona Avenue, stay right. You will lap this course once only, then take the finish in the kindergarten carpark.
